Happy New Years

Happy New Years!!! The first day of 2011!!! See I told you the next post I'll put up will be next year! Today I just want to give some advice to all you year 6's moving on to intermediate.
There's no need to be afraid because I bet you half of the people in your class will be feeling the same way as you do. Try out for everything (this is a piece of advice from Miss Davies), and even though being bad and not listening to the teacher seems "cool" it probably isn't very cool when you get in trouble.
To Everyone here's some advice:
Remember that next year will be a better year. Just visualise that new car, that new house, that new toy, the better friends. Remember this:
"If you're in a bad situation, don't worry it'll change. If  you're in a good situation, don't worry it'll change"
That is a quote. Life is hard so expect a few bumps in the road but enjoy that feeling you get when you go over a bump in the road! SO anywho Happy New Year and I hope this year is as better as the last!

Sitting Waiting for The Bus

Yes I am... mentally not physically. Which means I'm not really waiting for a bus literally. I'm waiting for the bus, called mystery's, a driver called unknown, and I'm going to a  place called... Adventure!!! Yup! I'm waiting for the bus going to Adventure. There may be no place called Adventure but mentally there probably is. SOOO to hang out with me while I wait for my bus is, my family and friends. In life we all go our own ways and we leave people behind... we all take different buses. Some of you might be going to Fear, Excitement, Evil, Adventure like me! But we all get a choice on which way our life is going. Choose the right path, or path that doesn't involve bad things. I'm choosing the path of Adventure... hope I meet you along the way.

Meet The Parents: Little Fockers

"Dad I think you missed the turn" We were in Hamilton and the GPS was on but it was taking us around in a circle. We were going to watch a movie at the Hamilton Mall called Meet The Parents: Little Fockers. We found the mall and we rushed outside... the movie didn't start until 1:40pm so we did a little bit of shopping... or should I say a little bit of a lot of shopping... that doesn't make sense, but that doesn't matter.
Anyway, it was nearly time for the movie to start so we went up to the cinemas.

We sat down with our popcorn, 2 boxes of shapes (BBQ and Chicken flavour) and a bottle of chocolate milkshake, a medium coke and a mini raspberry frozen coke. What??? We have a big family so we need a lot of things to eat/drink. Anyway the movie was funny but it's rated M... but it was funny!!!!

Afrikaans Gone!!!

I'm so sorry to inform you that I will not be doing Afrikaans sentence for the day anymore. So sorry.

Typing up a storm!!!

These last few day's before the end of the year I'll be typing up a storm. Trying as hard as I can to reach my goal... Get 150 blog posts before the end of the year!!!! *feels tingly inside* . If I get 200 GREAT if I get 150 GOOD at least I achieved my goal of 150... but 200 wouldn't be possible unless I wrote like 20 blogs a day or 10 so bye and be ready for heaps more blog posts!!!!

The waiting has paid off!!!

Yes it has from last years Christmas till this Christmas. This CHRISTMAS IS AWESOME!! I'm so glad I waited to open my presents till CHRISTMAS morning. I've got 5 prezzies but I've got to go... seen jou later (se you later) and I'll tell you about the rest of my Christmas soon!!!

Okay I hope you haven't unwrapped any of those presents yet!!!! Have you????? Not Knowing?

Do you absolutely HATE it when you've just forget about something you've said, or was talking about , or when you can't remember the name of a really famous song?
I do and here are 2 helpful tips to help (what are helpful tips going to do other than help...give you a love note with chocolates in the shape of a heart?):

1. Retrace your steps. Go back to the place where you were talking, or thinking about that thing
or if that doesn't work here's tip 2
2. Just forget about you forgetting. Sooner or later it's gonna come rushing back into your mind.

Tip 2 is what I usually do. Hope this helps... Bye for now!

Cool way to do times tables!

If you want to find out an easy way to times numbers between 100-109 here is what you do:

So what you do is you first know that the first number will be 1
then you add the last 2 numbers together and that number will go after the number 1.
The next step is to times the last 2 numbers together and that last number goes on the end.
Here is an example:

105
x 107
1(5+7=12) 12 (5x7=35)35 so the answer is :
11235 you can use this method for multiplying numbers between 100-109
BTW  when you're adding numbers that only come up with 1 digit or multiplying and only 1 digit comes up you put a 0 in front of the 1 digit number e.g.:

100
x107
1(7+0=7 so it's 07)07(7x0=0 so it's 00) 00
The answer is:
10700

Holiday Heat

Oh my gosh! Today is 32 degrees Celsius! That is blazing hot for people in NZ! Which is for all you people who don't use Celsius this is 90 Fahrenheit . But for people in South Africa 45- 50 degrees is hot (113-122 Fahrenheit)  So this post was just to say... IT'S QUITE HOT!

Holiday's Boredom

Okay so it's the holiday's and it's going to be quite boring  (except for Christmas and New Years Party's). Example:
Monday: Most likely cleaning
Tuesday: Most likely cleaning
Wednesday: Most likely cleaning
Thursday: Most likely cleaning... you get the point. I can't be stuck doing cleaning the whole of the holiday's. But thanks to my mischievous brain I've already got some ideas! But the only thing raining down on my ideas is the fact that actually my mum has some fun stuff planned (including cleaning (how is that fun) but other than fun cleaning, movies and games etc)

Shari was sitting on my right, Hannah on Shari's right and Bridget was on my left. Us four friends sitting next to each other. I looked to my right. Shari was crying... then to my left and what do you know so was Bridget... and then hoping that I wasn't the only one not crying I looked at Hannah... who's eyes were red and tears were streaming down her face. Then next on the list of tears it was Supalinee's turn to talk and she took one look at Shari and started crying. Shari couldn't talk and was choking on tears (but not dying) and it was my turn. Yay!! Christmas, Christmas Time is Here!

Yayayyayayayyyayayayayya!!!!!!!!!!!! The time of year everyone loves (except crazy people) is just around the corner (now don't go looking around any corners because I don't mean it literally)... CHRISTMAS!! The presents, the gift's, the toy's, the opening of presents even the atmosphere is so exciting. Just saying Christmas is enough to get you excited. We've set up our CHRISTMAS tree, and it looks great. It's one of those fibre optic trees. And for those people out there who don't know what a fibre optic tree is I'll tell you.  A fibre optic CHRISTMAS tree has those furry, fuzzy leafy things like normal CHRISTMAS trees but  there are also clear leafy thingy's and when you plug the tree in and turn it on  the clear leafy things glow different colours... OOOOH!AAAAAH! We also went out for our CHRISTMAS clothes shopping. Yes we wear "fancy" clothes for CHRISTMAS but I actually think that's quite cool... and I bet half of you who think that wearing "fancy" clothes for CHRISTMAS is weird actually do the same thing too! Anywho not wanting to offend anyone I didn't really want to get a dress like my sister's did so I got a 3 quarter pair of jeans and this shirt that has a picture of ELMO (I heart elmo... when I was a little kid I would always watch his show "Elmo's World") and it say's LITTLE BIT TICKLISH" but the irony is that I'm not actually ticklish. 

So there you have it CHRISTMAS is the best time of year!

It's Always Hard to Say Good Bye

The Year 6 graduation dinner. One of the sure signs we're going to be leaving Primary School... and soon! I'm so excited yet sad at the same time. I've only been in Summerland for 2 years but I have many close friends and have learnt ssoooooo many new things. So far Summerland has been one of the best schools I've ever been to. I could never ask for more in a school. Summerland was, fun exciting and we all stuck together like family, and even though I've only been there for 2 years I've still felt the love. Another sign that we're going to be leaving Primary soon is that all the year 6's are getting "talks" gross ones, ones about behaviour, and nearly about everything to do with going to intermediate and how things won't be the same there. So what I think we should do is take a notebook to every talk so we can remember them and be very good intermediate children. Just kidding. My brain is like a sponge and things I learn is like water and so my sponge (BRAIN) soaks up the water (SOMETHING NEW I LEARN)  so my sponge is bulging (probably leaking a bit I can't remember everything). Anywho I'm going to miss Primary and I can't wait for the new and exciting things that await me at Intermediate

Yaay! Sorry I just can't contain my joy Altiyan Childs won X Factor. That's really exciting for me because usually when I want someone ti win a contest on TV and things like that they always come second or last BUT I wanted Altiyan to win and he did. "And the WINNER of X Factor Australia 2010 is..." there was a drum roll. My heart pounding, crossed fingers hoping it was the rock sensation Altiyan Childs... "ALTIYAN CHILDS" a loud roar from the crowd in the TV went up and I was jumping up and down like a mad person. "IT'S ALTIYAN IT'S ALTIYAN!!" I shrieked. I swear if I screamed one more time I would have lost my voice. I was sooooooooo excited... not sooooooo excited but SSSSSOOO EXCITED. Wait what I just said before understatement of the year there are no words to explain how happy I was. I know you must be thinking "Oh my gosh crazy Atarah getting so excited just for the winner of X Factor' BUT you're lucky I'm to excited to care about what you think because If I wasn't so excited you had better watch out... for the TOOTH FAIRY. Very dry joke Atarah.

Anywho Sally and Andrew did well (I put Andrew in Italics because I was saying his name through gritted teeth) 
But Mr. Childs impressed Australia more and he deserved to win. Oh and one more thing...

Wee Wee!... Wait Wii Wii!

Hello this is the reason why I haven't been blogging recently:
Because of wee! Sorry I mean Wii! Yes my Grandma bought us Wii! She left to South Africa for 6 months so she bought us our Christmas present early. We have Black Wii because our TV is Black and it looks awesome. But more importantly playing with it is awesome. So do you want to know about what happened that day? If you said no TOOO BAD I'm going to tell you anyway (oh yeah and by the way it's not wee you make in the toilet it's a gaming thing like Play Station):

We were dropping our grandma of at her house and she told us she was going to give us Wii which she had bought for us for Christmas. We were so excited and as we came to her house I hopped out with her so that I could get the Wii. As I  went up the stairs towards the entrance of the house I was tingling inside with excitement. "Yay thank you so much grandma" I said as she handed me the bag with the Wii stuff in it. I hurried back to the car and we drove home anxiously waiting to finally take the Wii out of the box. When we got home I grabbed the packet and  spread the bit's and pieces on the floor. We took out everything from inside the boxes and connected everything to the TV we. Once everything was connected we looked at the 2 games we had. Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort. We put Wii Sports in first and me and my sister played Tennis. I WON! Wii is really fun and you know what I didn't think that a gaming thing could make me sweat so much.We wanted Wii for Christmas and we got Wii for Christmas...hmmm wonder If I want an iPod touch for Christmas will I get an iPod Touch for Christmas?

All Hope Lost For The 29 Miners

Hello.
Yesterday the 24th of Novemeber 2010 there was a second explosion at Pike River Mine. The people who were in charge of looking out for the people trapped in the mine said that there was no way that those miners could have survived that blast and that now in stead of a Search and Rescue the operation has become a Search and Recovery rescue. I felt really sad when they announced the miners were no longer alive and that they couldn't get them out alive. There were people from all around the world and the youngest of the miners was 17. The oldest of the miners was 62.
My prayers are with the miners families as the cope through this hard time. May they be comforted by the Lord's peace.

I was sleeping in my room when something grabbed my neck and squeezed. It started laughing but not an evil laugh a baby laugh. I turned around to see my sisters baby doll STANDING UP she grabbed me and said
"As a baby I need you to be very gentle with me so that I don't go cukoo OOOOKKKKAAAAY!! Please  don't be mean to me or I'll pull your hair" she said giving me a hi-5 on the cheek but a very hard one. Then she left.

Baby Sis Nearly 2 weeks old!

Well you probably know that my family have a baby in the house and tomorrow (22/11/10) she will be 2 weeks. I forgot to write about her 1st week but I will talk about both. The first week with baby was awesome. She has chubby cheeks and you want to kiss all the time. She is so cute when she sleeps but when she cries she's not that cute. I wuv mwy bybe sistwer... oops gone all mushy let me translate it for you I love my baby sister... that's what happens when woo got a twiny wittle bybe... oh I just love my little sis that I get really mushy sometimes let me translate again when you got a tiny little baby. The Gala is coming to town. Well not really to town seeing that some of you read this blog from around the world. Anyway. There is a lot of fun and games and our class is doing a Bottle Tombola and the whole pod is doing SHERBET!!!!! The sherbet at our school gala is the best sherbet I have ever tasted!  The gala is a really fun event we have at school every year. There are games and heaps of cool stalls. There is a lot of fun things to do and it is definitely not boring. On a scale from 1-10 (10 being excellent)
I would rate the gala 100. There is even going to be one of those games where you throw a ball at a target and if you hit the target there's a person sitting over a water tank who falls in the water. Overall the gala is awesome!

Recipes

 Palline di Ciccolato
100g dark chocolate
1 cup of ground almonds or hazelnuts, toasted
1/2 cups icing sugar, sifted
1 tablespoon softened butter
1 tablespoon cold espresso coffee
3 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder, sifted
 -Grate the chocolate into a bowl
-Add the nuts to the chocolate, along with the icing sugar, coffee and butter
-Mix well with a wooden spoon, try not to use your hands, as the butter and chocolate will melt
-Prepare a dinner plate with the cocoa powder
-Roll the mix into 2cm balls with your hands and place them on the cocoa
-Roll them all gently in the cooa powder, making sure they are coated properly
-Place them on a small serving dish and keep them in the fridge until ready to serve

I've tried this recipe and it is amazing. I t is really yummy and it's Italian! Hope you try this out

Baby's Home!!!

Well this is going to be a short blog but I want to give you a little insight on baby's first day at home (which is the day I wrote this blog)
My Aunty brought the baby home and when we saw her car we were bursting with excitement. She was asleep when she got in but woke up after a while. We put her in a bassinet we have in our lounge and she was sleeping there until someone went there and messed with her and she started to cry. There was a lot of crying on her first day at home but the highlight for me was when she had her second bath but first bath at home. She was crying because she didn't like the water but what would you choose a smelly baby or a clean nice-smelling baby. I would go with clean. After that she was a bit sleepy but she was still awake. She is so cute and I  wonder how her first night at home will go (I'm guessing not very well)

Baby Girl!!

 O MY GOSH!! I have a new little sister. We haven't decided on a name yet but we like Zipporah! I am really excited because the baby is sssssssssssssssssssooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute! She weighs 3.4kg which is 7.5 pounds. She is absolutely tiny and soft. But if you really want to know what happened the day my mum gave birth here is what happened:

"Please come today, please come today" I said hoping and praying the baby would come that night. That night my father had just arrived from Wellington so I went to bed a little bit late. The next 7 hours later I hear my dad going "Atarah wake up, mum's going to have the baby"
'Maybe my dad is just trying to get me up" I though to myself. But fortunately I opened my eyes and it was still dark and I checked my watch. It was 5:00am. Wait I'm not a light sleeper and I hate getting up. Maybe these past few weeks I've been on alert for the baby but anyway mum can't wait that long. My dad would definitely not joke about this. He was even carrying my little sister because she wasn't waking up. So I jumped out of bed as quick as a flash and honestly got dressed in 1 minute.
'Well I was close enough. I wanted the baby to come last night but the baby's coming this morning' I thought as I put on some socks. I took my school uniform and my school bag with me because I really wanted to go to school after the baby was born. I hopped into the car and as we were pulling in to the carpark at the hospital I had just realised something. You may think I am dumb for doing this, but I will have you know that I am 10 and I read at 16+. The thing that I realised was that... I had remembered my school bag and school uniform but had forgotten to bring something so simple that I felt so silly...SHOES!!Yes I had forgotten shoes but my mum needed to get to hospital so that could wait. I walked into the hospital with my purple and pink striped socks with a hole in it (my trademark) and set in the waiting area. My dad stayed with us and texted some people while we were waiting for my grandma to come and stay with us in the waiting room. When she came we played memory game and ludo because I had to carry some board games. My grand was there at 15 to 6 and we got there sometime between 5- 10 past 5 (or sooner). My dad and grandma had turns to go in with mum but it was dad's turn to go in when the baby came. All we heard was
"AAAAH OOOF' (my mum)
"Waaa waaa naaa gaaa" (the baby)
When I heard the crying I started to run up and down the hallway. When my dad brought the baby out I was beyond,beyond ecstatic.
My little sister born on the 8th of November  sometime after 6am. I'll Love my little sister forever and ever and I will look after her like she was the most precious thing in the world. That is how much a Sister loves her sisters (except when they get annoying!...Not exactly!)

Wake Up, Go Back To Sleep... MISS A RUGBY GAME!!!

Finally I get to write about rugby after a long time anyway on with the blog:

"Atarah check what time the Bok's are playing" my dad said.
"They're playing at 6:30. I think I can wake up for that" I replied . So I go to bed. I wake up and check what time it is on my watch. It's 6:00. "Maybe I should get out of the bed so I don't fall of to sleep again" I thought to myself as I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes. "No It's only half and hour so I think I can wake up until 6:30"
I got back to sleep. I wake up and check my watch "9:00!" I quietly said to my self. So I brushed my teeth and then went to my mum's laptop. This is the part where it sort of goes bad and yucky so skip the next few lines if you can't take yucky. My Nose started bleeding and some of it went on my mums bed. (Now it's not yucky just bad) My mum's laptop had run out of charge and I couldn't plug the charger in because it was downstairs the only choice was to hold the laptop with one hand while the other held a tissue to my nose. When I plugged in the charger I went onto the New Zealand Herald website to find an article on the Bok's game against Ireland. Here is the information about the game

Springbok's WON ! 23-21. Juan Smith intercepted a pass and ran 65metres and he slid in for a try. Morne Steyn missed 3 of 4 penalty kicks which ended his streak of 41 straight goals. But what is most important is that Springboks won. The All Blacks also won against England and the Wallabies won against Wales. Anyway you will be seeing more blogs about rugby as we get closer to the Rugby World Cup 2011 here in New Zealand. I'm Atarah, 3 News... Just kidding See ya!

Extravagant Art

At school we are going to have an art sale. We have to do 4 pieces of art. Our first piece of art is Dot Art. You will find this type of artwork in Australia as it is of Aboriginal origin. this artwork is made up of single dots made by a toothpick.
Although it is Australian we made it our own by making kiwi icon pictures out of the dots. We also had to put koru’s or some Maori design in the middle. Our second piece of artwork was to glitter art. All of the art we did had something to do with New Zealand so this glitter art pattern had to be a  Maori koru or a Pacific  Island flower. we first had to design our own Koru or Flower.
Then we had to take 2 pieces of square cardboard and Draw our design on them. I taped the cardboard at the back and then drew my design on the front so I could connect the cardboard later on in the process. When I had finished drawing the koru I had to glitter the inside of it. I chose green for the inside and then I had to wait and let it dry.
When it finished drying (which took a day or so) I glittered the outside gold (Colours of the Springboks). When that dried We used black PVA glue to go around the pattern.
Our third activity was to draw a famous landmark in New Zealand and go around it in vivd and then dye the background. We had to do a sunset or sunrise background. Our 4th piece of artwork was were we had to stickle our piece of  black paper with green paint and then after that we had to stickle over the top of the dark green with light green. When the light green paint had dried we had to use long pieces of cardboard and short pieces of cardboard to make pohutokawa’s. When we had completed all 4 of those pieces of art we had to choose which one we wanted to sell at the art sale and  chose my dot art. The art is selling for $5 so please buy mine!

For example, my friend Shari has done a really good speech and it makes me laugh. And thats not all the good speeches there are heaps more but I don't want to list them all as there are A LOT!

A Shower of Presents?!

When we finally got to start we started with a game.

My mum is pregnant and like most women she had a Baby Shower. A baby shower is like a party for a lady that is pregnant. The pregnant lady is not supposed to know that she is going to have a baby shower because there are usually friends that throw a baby shower for that lady. They invite all of the pregnant lady's friends and usually it's only women that come to a baby shower. They buy presents and play baby games and it's quite fun.
This is the story about the baby shower.
I quickly got dressed and put my shoes on. Aunty Jamaine and Aunty Andrea were here to take me to decorate the hall that we were having the baby shower in. I was the only one out of my 3 sisters who was supposed to go to the hall and decorate it but my sisters have a way of begging that works and they happily ran into the car and sat down. Oh boy I don't want them!
We got in the car and drove to the hall. We had to unload a few things off the car and then we went inside. We spent half an hour decorating the hall and getting things ready. When my mum came she went into a room with Aunty Jamaine and Aunty Andrea and they started to make my mum up. Guests started to arrive so we sat them down in our circle of chairs.
The game was where you had 4 different chocolates and you had to mash them up so they look like poo. The 4 contestants had to guess what chocolate they were holding (in a tissue).
The second game we played was where you had to guess what size my mums tummy was and then cut a piece of ribbon to match that size.
There was one yucky game though. It was where we all had to taste some baby food and guess what 3 ingredients were in it. It happened to be apple, blueberry and muesli.

After the games we had dinner which my grandma cooked. After dinner we had ice-cream and I made a cake that looked like a duck.
I really enjoyed going to the baby shower and a big thank you to Aunty Jamaine, Aunty Andrea, My Grandma and all the guests that attended!

Daughter of an Author.

My dad is an author. He has written 2 books called From The Pit To The Palace and You Can and he has co-written 2 books called Inga My Story about Inga Tuigamala (ex-All Black) and 180 degrees about an ex-criminal called Adrian Pritchard (I wrote about him in a different blog post). He has also published and edited quite a few books.
As well as being an author he is also a preacher. He usually travels around in the weekends and goes to different churches in different places. If he is speaking in a church in Auckland or somewhere we can drive to he takes us with him. But if it is in a place like Christchurch then my dad goes by himself.
Getting back to being the daughter of an author. I've been to 4 book launches. Pit to Palace, You Can, Inga My Story and 180 degrees. I want to follow in my dads footsteps and become and author but only as a part time thing.
I really enjoy writing and you never know I could become a young author. Watch out for any of my dad's new books (most likely you'll know when I tell you). Hope you've learnt a lot about the life of an Authors Daughter.
